Recent Projects

Gulston Residence (Under Construction)

The heart of this project is to convert a single story World War II bungalow into a two story character home.  We are approaching the conclusion of the framing portion of this project, the electrical and plumbing are well underway and the door window and siding installation will begin in the next few weeks.

The Curved Pergola  (Completed April 15, 2011)

The construction of the pergola was the second phase of the clients desired outdoor living space.   The Indoor Outdoor Guy went through a detailed design process with the client to help the client choose the design she envisioned.  Our design team, based on the client's initial input and requirements prepared four different designs, of which the client selected one that was further customized.

The Steveston Custom Cedar Shed  (Completed May 15, 2011)

This shed and pergola were custom built for a client.  The client intends to use the shed for storage and the covered pergola will house a hot tub. The shed was cladded in cedar, as per the client's request.  Timber frame construction was used for the pergola to give it the desired look.  The client painted the shed and fence to match in a natural cedar stain.

Featured Projects

Erickson/Chappell Residence

The goal of this project was to transform the clients vinyl sided home into a beautiful character home.  As part of this project the front porch was opened up and the back porch replaced with a deck to allow more light into the home, as well as to change the overall appearance of the house. The project involved the construction of a completely new rainscreened building envelope, the residing of the entire house, the installation of new faschia, soffits, gable trim, window and door casings, ban boards, and the installation of new doors and windows.

The Natural Home

This home was built using all  natural building products and has almost zero VOCs or off gasing.  It features a timber frame ceiling and stairs, long lasting metal roof, and hardwood fir flooring throughout. The interior of this home features beautiful timberframe ceilings, fir floors and fir window and door casings throughout. Earth quarried slate, granite, wool carpeting combine with the timberframe features to give the interior of this house a very natural and relaxing feeling. The exterior of this natural home features warm cedar beveled siding, fir casings, and a long lasting durable metal roof.  The cedar siding gives a warm natural look that allows the house to stand out, while still blending in with it's surroundings.  The metal roof not only lasts 50 or more years, but allows for the collection of clean rainwater for use in gardens.

The Brulot Residence

The focus of this project was to transform the clients aluminum sided home into a period era character home. As part of this project the front porch was redone with additional details added to posts and beam. The windows were all re-cased with a Victorian style casing.  Band boards were added between the shakes and the lap siding.  A repeating square detail was added above the front porch to finish the Victorian look.  New soffits, as well as gable trim boards and corner boards were added to give this house a completely new look.  Certainteed fibre cement siding was used both for the lap siding and the shingles in the gable.  Both the siding and the shingles were pre-painted to Benjamin Moore colors, chosen by the client, to accomplish the specific color balance the client was looking for. The project also involved the construction of a completely new rainscreened building envelope & the complete re-siding of the entire house, lifting of front porch, and construction of new a railing for the front stairs.

The Cresent Beach Bathoom Project

The client's desired that this bathroom have a big wow factor, while still remaining functional.  The existing bathroom had a wall which seperated the shower from the rest of the bathroom, making the shower very dark and cold.  The client followed our recommendations to take the wall out and to make the shower the prominent focal point of the bathroom.  The shower includes a regular shower head mounted on the wall, as well as a rain head mounted on the ceiling, and a detachable wand that can be used on hard to reach places and for cleaning the shower.

The Cresent Beach Bathroom is a 5 peice bathroom with custom shower and tile moasic layout on the floor.

The Fairdell Designer Deck Project

This deck was built for an interior designer's own home, therefore this deck was both about design and functionality.  The deck needed to fit in with the home and landscaping, well.  It also had to contain a hot tub and a lounging area.  A wooden and plexiglass pergola was constructed so the hot tub could be used during rainy days. The decking used was a low maintenance composite decking manufactured by TimberTech.  The decking used a hidden clip system so no nails or screws are visible on top of the deck.

The Cascade Project.

The clients hired us to renovate their stairs and two bathrooms in their home before they moved in. The existing stairs had a dated style from the 70's and were painted white. The clients wanted a newer style of stair railing that was both solid wood and cast iron. Both bathrooms in the house were completely renovated and additional features added.  In one of the bathrooms the full area that the bathtub took up was converted to a shower.

Hardwood stair railings and steel spindles.
